CVG Romans Chapter 1

1  2  3  4

1. Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, a called Apostle, separated out for the Gospel of God.

2. Which He declared before through His prophets in the holy writings.

3. Concerning His Son Who came from the seed of David according to the flesh.

4. who was marked out as the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of sanctification from the resurrection of the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord.

5. Through Whom we received grace and Apostleship to the perseverance of faith among all the Gentiles for the sake of His name.

6. Among whom (Gentiles) you are also the called of Jesus Christ.

7. To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, to those called as saints, grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

8. First then I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ concerning all of you because your faith is proclaimed to the whole world.

9. For God is my witness, Whom I serve in my spirit in the Gospel of His Son, how without interruption I make mention of you

10. always in my prayers requesting if perhaps at some time already I may succeed by the will of God to come to you.

11. For I desire to see you that I may share some spiritual gift with you in order to strengthen you.

12. But this is to be encouraged together with you through each other's faith, both yours and mine.

13. But I don't want you to be ignorant, brothers, that many times I intended to come to you and I was hindered up until now that I may have some fruit both among you and also among the rest of the Gentiles.

14. To the Greeks and to the Barbarians, to the wise and to the ignorant I am a debtor.

15. So also according to my readiness [I want] to preach the Gospel to you who are in Rome also.

16. For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God to salvation for each one who believes, to a Jew first and then to a Gentile.

17. For the righteousness of God is revealed in it from faith to faith, just as it is written, "But the righteous one will live from faith" (Habakkuk 2:4).

18. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven in every ungodliness and the wrongdoing of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness [NOTE: bracketing occurs here 'men who-truth-in-unrighteousness-suppressing'].

19. For this reason the common knowledge of God is manifest among them, for God manifested [it] to them.

20. For His invisible attributes [NOTE: This adjective (invisible) is a substantive. This means it has no noun, the noun is understood: qualities, attributes, etc.] are clearly seen, being known from the creation of the world in those things which are made.

21. For this reason, they knew God, but they did not glorify Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they were given over to think worthless things in their reasonings, and their stupid heart was darkened.

22. Asserting to be wise men, they became morons [NOTE: The derivation of this word has the root for moron: ???????].

23. And they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of a corruptible image of man and of birds and of four-footed animals and of creeping things [NOTE: This last word can be quite a few things, reptiles, snakes, insects, etc. The point is clear, anything but God is worshiped.].

24. Therefore, God handed them over to the desires of their hearts to uncleanness [NOTE: This word (?????????) is the word from which we get 'catharsis.' In Greek to make a word mean the opposite, an alpha is added. This is known as privative alpha.], so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.

25. Who exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creation instead of the One who created it, Who is blessed forever, amen!

26. For this reason God gave them over to a passion of dishonor, for their females exchanged the natural use to that which is not natural.

27. Likewise also the males abandoning the natural use of the woman were inflamed in their appetite [NOTE: This is not the usual word for desire. It is more of appetite, or a yearning or longing.] to one another, men among men, working shamelessness and receiving back the penalty which was necessary of their error in their own persons [NOTE: It sounds like the penalty described here by Paul is the inherent shamelessness with the acts described. Much like a man is reduced to a loaf of bread on account of a harlot (Proverbs 6:26). The act itself condemns the man since he acts outside of his own better judgment. The only thing which may cover this shamelessness in both cases is that it is unknown to others, but not to God.].

28. And just as they did not approve of having God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a disqualified [NOTE: the word 'disqualified' is the opposite of the 'approve' verb above. Paul's Play.] mind, to do the things which are not fitting.

29. Being filled with all lawlessness, wickedness, unbridled greed, evil, being full of envy, murder, strife, guile and malice, being evil whisperers.

30. Slanderers, ones hated by God, cruel and proud men, arrogant men, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31. stupids, bound by no laws, without natural affection, unmerciful,

32. who knowing the judgment of God that those doing such things are worthy of death, not only do these things, but give their consent to those doing them as well [NOTE: When you translate this list one by one from the Greek it is a much more scary list. These are in the depths of the human race. These are in the depths of all our hearts. This is what men are capable of when they ignore and suppress God. It should make us weep to know how utterly evil we are.].
